Broken Muscles and a Festival of Kale

FOOD

This week has been mostly smoothies, juices, soups, and salads.  It’s been one of those insanely busy weeks, so I’m really glad I had that vat of veggie soup from Monday.

I'm lazy, and I like my kale in pre-cut bags. They're not always easy to find, but D found one and called to see if I wanted a "big ass bag of kale". YES PLEASE. I've been eating it all week - in salads, soups, stir fries, and drinks.

creamy potato soup. 2 baked Yukon gold potatoes, a few steamed veggies, some soymilk, and veggie broth. Whip up in the Vitamix, and a fast hot soup is all mine!

Well Spring is here, and so that means another juice cleanse.  As challenging as they are, I do very much look forward to them and the opportunity to reset!  Especially now that I’m eliminating gluten, I’m excited to see how I feel.  I’m doing a 5 day one this time, and due to my wacko schedule, I’m actually doing a commercial juice cleanse.  I picked Pressed Juicery since they sell their pressed juices here locally and I absolutely love them.  I also picked them because all the other ones I saw included a nut milk, and I simply cannot have those in my house with R’s allergy.  Pressed Juicery offered a coconut milk option, which I really appreciate.  My shipment should arrive Tuesday, so I’ll start it Thursday.  To prep, I’m going to stick to mostly raw foods for the next few days.

FITNESS

I’ve spent much of this week sore as hell from crossfit!  Not in a bad way, but definitely in that “I have muscles where?!?” way.  I seriously wondered at some point if I broke my leg muscles….not pulled them…but somehow broke them!  Let’s just say I wasn’t moving very quickly.

I had two runs this week.  The first one was a little tough since my legs were so wobbly from crossfit, but after a quarter-mile or so, I found my groove.  Yesterday’s was nice, but indoors since it was snowing!  Yes…it’s Spring.  It’s Virginia.  And it was snowing.  I was unamused.

LIFE

It’s been a very hectic week, but I suppose that’s nothing new.  I didn’t get home until quite late Mon-Wed (like usual….between 8-10pm those days).  Work every day, swim team practice, working out, and trying to keep the house organized.

Oh, and D and M left yesterday for a long weekend in Boston.  They had a really crap travel day too (we’re talking late planes, missed connections, wrong airport, missed baggage – that was sent to the wrong airport).  I feel terrible, but by the end of the night, they were finally in their hotel with their own luggage.  It was just a convoluted mess.

Hopefully they’ll have a great time now that the drama is behind them.

R has a swim meet tomorrow!  It’s the last one before the championships next month, so she’s pretty excited.  It’ll make for a long day, though.

As for me, it’s off to work, and then this evening will be a very low-key night with my girls.

    1. It took me a long time to bite the bullet and get the VitaMix. I picked mine up at one of their road shows for much cheaper than buying directly. Honestly….my most used appliance. I use it pretty much daily, at least once.

  1. It’s been chilly here too the past few days, and I wanted something warm for breakfast – that wasn’t oatmeal (I can only handle oatmeal once in awhile!).
I’m lucky that I haven’t had any foot issues. I have a hard enough time walking lately as it is!
