The One Where I Didn’t Win a Trip by Wearing a Cool Costume

FOOD

Yesterday morning I was feeling fancy, so I decided to drink my green smoothie in a wine glass.  Really, I just wanted to have a prettier picture, but it did sort of feel like I was having a cocktail before work!

spinach, frozen fruit, banana, brown rice protein powder and water. That's it, but it's oh so good.

I picked up a BAS when I was out and about at a place called YNot Pizza that’s near the university area.  You order your custom chopped salad at a little computer screen, it spits out a receipt that you use to pay for it at the counter, and voila!  Custom salad goodness.

I was chilly the other day and whipped up some vanilla mint hot chocolate.  I frothed up some vanilla soymilk in my espresso frother and dumped some vegan chocolate mint syrup in it.  Totally will have this again.

This morning was a pre-race baked potato and 1/2 of a Clif Bar.  Both favored fuels, and they didn’t disappoint.

Today I grabbed a quick lunch at Whole Foods before grocery shopping.  I was pretty  hungry by then, and didn’t want to go to batty with the shopping!  I will say that as much as I love WF, I’ve been disappointed with the hot and cold food bar at the new one in Virginia Beach.  Their hot food has no vegan items, and their salad bar doesn’t have any of the fun vegan toppings I tend to associate with other WF’s I’ve been to – no roasted tofu, edamame, etc.  And only one vegan salad dressing – a raspberry one – that while not bad, I need to be in the mood for it.

However…I decided to post on their Facebook wall a suggestion, and they not only replied, but said they’re in the process of adding vegan foods to their buffet bars.  Yay!  I love Whole Foods…  🙂

Dinner tonight was lentil tacos topped with avocado, onion, tomato, romaine, cilantro, and hot sauce.  Really, really yummy!  I’m a sucker for anything on a tortilla.  I also threw a quick rice cooker Spanish rice together – 1 cup brown rice, one can diced tomatoes with juices, 1 1/2 cups water, and a can of green chilis.  Mexican food heaven tonight!

FITNESS

The most fun was definitely the Surf N Santa race this morning down at the Oceanfront.  I picked up AE and drove down this morning.  I did the 5K and she did the 10 miler.  It was a fun race, went by quickly, and had a blast with all the costumes.  Not many of the pics I took came out, but there were a lot of really good ones.  My favorite was a larger group running together that were dressed as shepherds, angels, wise men, and Mary even carrying a baby bundle.  And they sang carols pretty much the entire time.

I, alas, did NOT win a trip to Boston because I did NOT run in a costume since my brat daughter never got around to making me one, but honestly – it would have felt awkward!

I’ve missed doing races, and definitely plan to do many in 2013.  2012 has been a crazy slack year in that dept. (this was the ONLY race I’ve done!).

LIFE

Yesterday was a work holiday party, which was a lot of fun.  We drank and played pool and hung out starting around lunch.  I was asleep by 8pm!

Today was the race and then running errands.  I went to the specialty olive oil/vinegar store to refill my Tuscan Infused Olive Oil, went to the Italian market, and then to Whole Foods.  From there it was home, cleaning, cooking, and blogging!  Overall, a fantastic Saturday.
