G Day is Here

Rather than itemize the food consumed since Sunday, I’ll just let you all know that I’ve finally taken the plunge. The gluten-free plunge…what I’m affectionately calling G Day.

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you may recall my foray into gluten-lite experimentation that started when I returned from the Vida Vegan Con vegan bloggers conference last fall. I also did a Lenten gluten free adventure (tho I honestly didn’t complete it successfully).

Anyway, the past few weeks I’ve been easing into it more and more…enough so that I’m finally comfortable with just cutting it out completely. G Day was actually Tuesday, and so far, so good.

Yesterday I clearly felt the need to make up for being sick the previous week. I had a 3-fer. Yep. 3 workouts.

I did a 3 mi run before work, a double WOD at crossfit after work, and an hour warm yoga class with AC at 730.

The first Crossfit WOD was “Annie”, which consisted of 50-40-30-20-10 jump ropes followed by alternating 25-20-15-10-5 sit ups. The second was “Jackie”, which was a 700m row, 30 Thrusters with a 22# barbell, and 15 pull-ups. They were both beginner versions of the full Rx (ther term for doing the ‘prescribed’ workout).

Today, I am sore. But I can’t exactly identify what workout caused it! Are my abs sore from the sit ups at CF, or the planks at yoga? Are my shoulders aching from pull ups or lots of down dog? It doesn’t really matter after all. It’s a good type of sore…knowing I’m working my muscles hard!

Life has been both busy and slow. Strange, I know. Work is always busy (but I secretly love that). This was the last week of school for the kids, so that’s been hectic. M has strep throat that he’s finally recovering from, and we have a bunch of teenagers coming over tomorrow night for a birthday party and backyard movie night.

But despite that…the past two weeks seem to be dragging by in slow motion. I think it’s because I’m going in vacation in a little over a month, and I’m so excited, that it’s taking forever to get here! I seriously can’t complain though. Life is great, kids are great, D is great….some should be happy that time is slowing down for once 🙂

I am a 45 yo busy career single mom and doctoral student attempting to find her inner athlete, be a gluten-free(ish) vegan, and find a way to balance it all without going crazy! I love to cook, read, run, box, do yoga, dance, travel, and learn as many new things as I can - which often gets me in trouble.... I am passionate about life in general, and if I didn't write about it, I'd probably implode.
