Trick or Treat, Jammie People, and a Frazzled Day From Hell

Okay, I’m doing this at 436am because I clearly have nothing else to do….or I need to do something to stay awake for another 3-4 hours.

The past few days have been a whirlwind of craziness, and I apologize for being absent. Sunday was a lot of cleaning and organizing to get ready for my 10 day work trip to the DC area. It was also spent doing fun things like taking A to be a volunteer ghost at a spooky walk hosted by a local art museum and finally getting to go for a rain-free run.

Yesterday, of course, was Halloween. My favorite holiday of the year! I worked half a day and then came home to get things ready. I love that my area still does trick or treat on Halloween proper and at night when it’s dark. As soon as my eldest got home from school, we put her to work painting the face of R to be a very scary witch. M and A stayed at the house to pass out candy while D and I took R out trick or treating.

It was a ton of fun, everyone was out and about, and I R collected a ton of candy that not only does she not want, but most had to be removed from the house right away due to nuts. So….my child hates candy but loves to trick or treat. D’s co workers will be happy when he brings it all to work.

After we got home, it was time to have R take a shower to remove all the make up and get ready for bed. She has this funny thing where she arranges her pajamas to be her ‘person’. Even puts her underwear under the jammie bottoms. Anyway, the below picture is of last nights ‘person’ doing the splits and holding a towel.

Today (Tuesday, as I haven’t been to bed yet) started out well and ended up very frazzled. I had everything packed and loaded in the van on Monday. My suitcase of clothes, my food bag – to include my VitaMix, my workout bag, and my work stuff. The only thing I didn’t have loaded was my toiletry bag, which was mostly packed except for the things I knew I needed to use this morning.

After saying goodbyes to the family and seeing them off, I had a quick bowl of soup and hit the road just after 9 am. My plan was to drive the 2 hrs to Richmond, shop at Penzy’s, Whole Foods, REI, and anywhere else that sounded good. Then to drive the last 1.5-2 hrs to my hotel, have a quick nap, and then head to work at 8pm for my 12 hr shift.

That’s when I get for planning. First half of the day went exactly as planned. I had a great drive to Richmond, stocked up on some new spices, bought my first Christmas gift, had lunch and picked up some things at Whole Foods, wandered around REI, and hit up one of the nice malls to window shop. I left around 2 after grabbing some tea, and hit the road again. I made great time and checked into my hotel at 4. I’m hauling my stuff upstairs, thinking all the while how much I want to brush my teeth and relax. Until I realize I don’t have my toothbrush. Or shampoo. Or makeup. Or meds. I left my stinking toiletry bag at home!

So off to Walgreens where they filled my prescriptions with an emergency 10 day supply. And while I waited, had to buy all my toiletries. Then of course I had to stop at Ulta for some make up. Then I get a text that I need to be at the hospital by 7, not 8 like the schedule said. So I had enough time to get back to my hotel, change, brush my teeth, grab my stuff for work and some food, and scramble out the door. Frazzled.

So as far as my countdown goes, it’s now 5am on Wednesday morning.

In 1 hr, I’ll have been awake 24 hrs.
In 2 hrs my shift ends.
In 2.5-3 hrs I will be having a glass of wine in my room.
In 3.5-4 hrs I will be asleep for the day.
I hope!
