Today started with 1 1/2 cups of coffee. Probably would have had two if it didn’t get cold so quickly. After that I made a juice that was totally awesome. Beets have scared me for as long as I can remember. They taste like dirt. Literally. AC claims they’re just “earthy”, but they literally taste like ground to me. Anyway, Quenna’s has some in the sunbeam salad, and I liked them (didn’t really taste like anything), so in my effort to expand into foods I’ve previously disliked, I decided to whip up a beet-friendly juice.
Aside from being purple – which is the most awesome color – it tasted incredible. D was freaking out when I made it. I don’t think he’s ever actually seen a beet before! Anyway, it was 2 beets, 2 green apples, and 3 celery stalks. Not rocket science, but really, really yummy. And I could say I voluntarily ingested beets.
I ended up having a very late lunch with D, R, and M at a local Italian place. I had a gluten-free and diary-free vegan pizza. It wasn’t bad, but not as stellar as the one a few weeks back from Cogan’s. Service took forever and by the time we finished eating, it was nearly 3pm.
Dinner…isn’t. It’s 7pm, and no one is hungry. The kids had some apples, and that’s about it. Terrible, I’m sure, but rather they munch on light and healthy snacks than have nothing. Everyone ate so late today and it’s so hot, that no one really wants anything. I’m sure I’ll get hungry around 3am.
I do need to mention that A took the leftover raw corn to school to eat as a snack. The rest of her class thought she was crazy for eating raw corn, and refused to try it despite her urging. Then again…she’s the ONLY kid in class with an A. So…who’s crazy? Generally I’d say my 16 yr old daughter…but not this time!
Today was Day 1 of Week 3 of the Women’s Health workout I’m doing. It went well except my back has been hurting and I only did 2 sets of the ab workout and 1 of the back one. It just got to be too much. I did complete all 3 sets of the other exercises though…even the push-ups. Which I hate.
Afterwards, I did a Fartlek run on the treadmill. 1 min sprint, 1 min walk. Repeat x 10. It felt good, though I’m still jonesing to get outside.
I finally, finally got a really good stretch of sleep. I can’t express how much I needed it. Only sleeping for 2-3 hrs at a time has made this a really tough week. And likely made me difficult to live with.
Busy day. Meetings started at 7am, and went most of the day. None were bad though, so that’s good! It’s nice to get back to a normal-ish routine.
Late afternoon was a much-needed trip to Sam’s club. I needed dog food and paper towels, and ended up with a TON of other stuff I may not have “needed”, but definitely could use.
Most of this evening has been spent working as well. I have a trip to DC next week, and a presentation I needed to work on. It’s done, so I don’t have to think too hard about it before I head up there.
I hate to admit that my back has been hurting this week. I don’t want to think the increased activity has caused it, so I’m going to continue to think it’s because I’ve been working nights and sitting for 8-10 hrs straight. Regardless, it’s gotten pretty sore the past few, and I’m glad I see the Dr next Thursday. This is really starting to get old.
I got a few fun pictures of Kiko eating and doing turtle yoga. Watching him (or her, I guess) eat is pretty fascinating. He’s like Pavlov’s dogs…see’s a person standing in front of his aquarium, and he starts swimming into the glass frantically waiting for his food. I end up narrating out loud what I think he’s thinking, and it cracks the kids up.
I catch him at different points up on his floating rock with head and front and back legs extended. Sort of reminds me of Kent in Real Genius. If you haven’t seen it, you should. If you have, you know exactly the scene I’m talking about.
I have a feeling I’m going to spend the rest of the evening stretched out in my jammies while reading up in bed! With a heating pad….
