I was at a work-related event on Thursday, and they had a separate veggie menu. I’m not exactly sure why they just don’t add the veggie options to the regular menu – like they’re embarrassed or something that some “weird veggie hippie” is going to come into their German beer haus and order (gasp) TOFU. Anyway – it was good (though strange to have tacos served with french fries). Blue corn tortillas, flour tortilla, snow peas, bell pepper, onion, mushrooms, and avocado.
D and I went out to lunch on Friday and I got a black bean burger with lots of guacamole and pico de gallo. I managed to eat about half of it, took the rest home, and had that for dinner before going to a party.
By Saturday I wanted something wholesome. I made Irish oatmeal for breakfast, and as soon as it was done cooking, I added a cup of frozen blueberries and a mashed up overripe banana. It made entirely too much, but was very tasty!
Lunch on Sunday was totally yummy. I roasted some big portabella mushroom caps in rice wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and minced garlic. Then put it on a sandwich thin with Veganaise, cabbage, avocado, and onion. Yum Yum Yum!
This week the only activity I did was run. It’s not that I didn’t want to do anything else – it’s just I ran out of time! I know – lousy excuse. Here’s the thing – I spent the past 4 months training so hard, that I had to decline most of the weekday outings and invitations with my friends. I had planned to make this week to catch up with those I’ve spent little time with, and that’s exactly what I did.
Because of that – and some really CRAP weather, my only workouts were running. But I will say – I had some of the best runs this week. The one on Saturday was particularly enjoyable. It was in the low 60’s, sunny, little to no wind, and I think I smiled for 4 miles.
This coming week should be interesting. I’m going to be out of town with my youngest, so can’t use the fitness center at the gym. I’m bringing my laptop and some workout DVDs, so it’ll be interesting to see if I’m actually going to do it, or just hike it around theme parks 12 hrs per day for 5 days. I’ll have my pedometer (part of my iPod) and my Bodybugg to check on what that does for me!
So I mentioned the spending time with friends bit. It was really nice. We had a Girl’s Wine Night on Wednesday, and as usual D dropped me off and picked me up. It was fun catching up with everyone, and I think we all had a really nice time.
Thursday was a vendor-sponsored event at a local restaurant. That was also nice. I got to see my friend’s wife, who I haven’t seen in a long time. She’s had a heck of a year, so it was wonderful to see her.
Friday was a couple of things. My friend AC (I have too many A’s in my life!) and I went to an antique show and then grabbed a quick beer. I have been on the lookout for end tables for my bedroom. My dressers were my parents from when they were first married (circa 1970), and my bed is about 7 years old. I didn’t care if the tables matched or not – because as AC says…if nothing matches, it ALL matches. Anyway, every furniture store (even IKEA) that I checked out had ridiculous prices, so I haven’t picked one up. I was so excited to find a good table that fits well in my room, has drawers (so my husband can stop leaving everything either on the floor or under the bed), and was under $100. I brought it home, D hauled it in, and it looks great between my bed, the dresser, and right under the window (makes the cat happy too since she can now get into the window).
Friday later evening was a jewelry party at another friend’s house. I’ve missed the last two parties she’s had due to my Tri club training calendar, and just couldn’t miss another one. S came and picked me up, and we went to C’s house. After giving her husband a bottle of gin (I pretty much drank his last bottle last time I was there….good times), I proceeded to have C and F put as much jewelry on me as they could (I don’t exactly accessorize). I ended up buying two necklaces.
Saturday afternoon was a wedding shower for my dear friend D who’s getting married at the end of the month. I also had to return a bunch of shorts I bought R that were too big, and while I was at the shower, D took her back out shopping for new shorts (she outgrew all hers, and needed some for our trip).
Saturday night D and I went out for some alone fun at a local bar, had a late dinner, and a couple pitchers of beer. We had a GREAT time. We debated the merits of some music….such as this fun conversation as Life in the Fast Lane from the Eagles was one.
D: “The Eagles suck.”
Me: “I love the Eagles!”
D: “every time I hear Hotel California I want to scream. Stupid song…and way too long.”
Me: “this coming from the man who listens to Phish” (their songs are an hour long!)
D: “The Eagles were the adult contemporary of their time”
Me: “are you saying The Eagles are the John Tesh of the 70’s?”
We also debated the “awkward” phase of music in the 80’s when certain songs came on – like Journey or something. And then there was the older guy making out with what looked like a transvestite at the bar that was 20 years younger. I think he gave her a tonsillectomy while we were sitting there and I had a hard time not hitting them with a beer bottle and telling them to get a room. Really?? Didn’t think adults did that (and this guy was easily in his late 50’s). Our waitress said they’re a weekly fixture making out at the bar. Not going there on a Saturday night ever again! And I have to say – this wasn’t a club or anything. It was a local sports bar….took my Dad there the last time he was here! He probably would have said something to them 🙂
Sunday was running last minute errands (like getting my nails done!), going to the library in hopes of getting some audio books, laundry, road trip snack shopping, and packing. I’m really looking forward to this trip with R. She’s at a fun age to love and remember the trip. You all can bet that the next week of blog updates will be pictures of us with Mickey Ears.
