Okay, so the biggest part of today’s post is going to be about a very cool foodie pen pal program! Lindsay over at The Lean Green Bean organizes a monthly swap of homemade and local goodies. A description of the program can be found here - you don’t have to be vegan to participate, but everyone is cool about abiding by the recipients food preferences/allergies/etc.
Essentially – you sign up by emailing her by the 4th, she sends out a massive spreadsheet with the pen pal matches on the 5th, mail a box by the 15th with your no-more-than $15 box of foodie fun (concentrate on local, homemade, and a hand written note/recipe/etc.), get your own box, love it, eat it, blog about it on the 31st! Super easy, right? Oh, and then Lindsay hosts a blog link-up so everyone can share their box experience!

On to what I got! It’s like Christmas in January!
In my box was a lovely note from Martine, tangerines from her very own sunny backyard tree (jealous), homemade spicy roasted chickpeas (recipe on her site!), homemade salsa, tea, and an organic quinoa power protein mix (gluten-free YAY), and local fresh popcorn (which I had for snack today, by the way). The tangerines have been prominent this week in my salads, smoothies, and juices, and I have the tea mid-morning every day (it’s really good). Chickpeas are gone, and I used half the salsa on some awesome Happy Herbivore Portobello “steak” tacos today!
I was a bad traveler. Other than walking around NYC and the campus we were visiting, I didn’t work out. I packed workout clothes – and used them to travel in rather than workout. Bad, bad me.
But that said – 20 minutes after I pulled in the driveway I was out the door! It helped that it was 74 degrees out and I had just left snow, freezing cold, and sleet on the upper east coast.
Today was a treadmill run because it was windy as heck outside! I can handle some wind, but these gale forces were insane. I’d blow away – though my pace heading away from the wind would have been killer.
I met with another personal trainer today. Other than the insane $800 a month to workout with them just 3 days per week, there’s nutritional stances were outdated. The belief that you ”need” animal proteins to be healthy, have muscle, or be athletic are bunk. I can list a slew of stellar vegan athletes. Besides, I’m not paying that kind of crazy dough.
Okay, life has been insane. Great, but insane! As you probably read in my last post, A and I spent a whirlwind 6 days in 3 cities. DC, NYC, and Baltimore. It was freezing, we had a great time, and my child picked a university! Can’t really beat that!
Oh, I went to my first Broadway show! We saw Chicago, and it was amazing. I’ve never seen the movie, and now I want to. I seriously wasn’t expecting it to be funny…but it was.
